ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Welcome from the principal

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

It is a great honour and privilege to welcome you to IES Kista as we look to constantly develop our school as a key part of the local community.

Since our initial opening in 2015, as an IES school we constantly work hard to meet the educational needs of our students, building on the foundations established when IES was first established over twenty five years ago. Bilingualism, with a genuine command of the English language and academic excellence all within a safe and calm learning environment remain at the heart of what we aim to provide for all our students.

Located in an internationally famous building, which was once home to IBM and KTH (kungliga tekniska högskolan), IES Kista is a hive of educational activity on a daily basis. Currently, our school community includes over 800 students aged between the ages of 10 and 16 (Swedish Years 4-9) and 100 staff members. We are a truly international school with over forty different home languages within our community, along with staff from many of the continents of the world.

Educationally, we deliver the Swedish national curriculum in a bilingual environment. Our educational philosophy is built on meeting all of our students with kindness and having a belief that all students can do well if they have the opportunity. Where our students face barriers to learning, our job is to remove them. We are firm believers in the concepts of core knowledge and cultural literacy, and our aim is to ensure that our students are both academically and socially able to fulfil their potential and make an active contribution to society. We work hard to ensure that all our students are aware of what possibilities lie ahead of them with respect to future educational opportunities and career paths. The only limitations on our students' possibilities should be their imagination.

For those of you already part of our community, I look forward to seeing you in person at the next opportunity. If you are a prospective parent, interested infinding out more about our school, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

Kindest regards

Mr Jörgen Smederöd
