Team Kista Talk, Graduation and the short week coming up

Team Kista Talk, Graduation and the short week coming up

Dear all,

We have now finalized the plans for a very different type of graduation ceremony, especially for year 9, due to the Covid-19 situation. Information on this will be posted on SchoolSoft this week for each year group.

Please remember that this week of school ends on Wednesday because of the public holiday on Thursday (Ascension Day), and students and staff also have Friday off.

This week's Team Kista Talk is about a very important word for learning, Self-Efficacy. It is quite difficult to pronounce but has to do with how people assess their own ability to succeed in a task. This ties into expectations and motivation and has a strong effect on if you actually succeed in the task you are asked to perform. Enjoy!

IES Kista in the Media, End of Year ceremonies and Team Kista Talk

IES Kista in the Media, End of Year ceremonies and Team Kista Talk

Dear all,

Last week was a little bit different for the school because of the media attention that came from the fantastic work of the entire team at IES Kista managing to keep the school open during the weeks of extreme absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, we also had visitors from a production company who did a piece on the culture shift at IES Kista for the annual report that comes out later this year. Many thanks to the people who volunteeered to be interviewed for this. It will be interesting to see how it looks when in print.

We understand that many of you wonder how the end of year ceremonies will be done this year because of the situation we are in. More information on this will come in the following week but I want to make sure it is clear already now that it is not possible for parents to attend any of the ceremonies regardless of year group because of Covid-19.

Lastly, this week's Team Kista Talk is about Talent and you can find it here!

IES Kista on the news and Team Kista Talk

IES Kista on the news and Team Kista Talk

Dear all,

I hope all of you have had the chance to enjoy the extra day off even though the weather has not been the best.

Last week we were asked to receive TV4 and talk about the new investigation about how to improve the Swedish school system. You can find the interview here. It is always such a joy to see our students be proud of their school and tell others about it. I think the journalist who visited us for the interview came away with some new perspectives on IES and what we do to build our schools around the needs of our students, regardless of where they live.

This week we will have visitors from another media company to do interviews for the IES annual report. A few students and staff will take part in this as well as myself. This will be another interesting experience and a great way to keep showing the world how good our students and staff are!

Team Kista Talk this week is about the concept of luck and you can find it here!

IES Kista back to the new normal and Team Kista Talk about one of my favourite words and concepts

IES Kista back to the new normal and Team Kista Talk about one of my favourite words and concepts

Dear all,

Last week we were back to what I can best describe as the new normal. Full staff presence in the school and many of our students are now back as well. However, one cannot deny that it feels different. It is a calmer, slower vibe in the school and of course the social distancing and routines to help us stay clean and healthy are visible and add to the slightly different feeling.

This week we will only have four days together since Friday is a red day and the coming weeks will of course be special for many of our students and staff since Ramadan has begun. We are also very happy to see the sun shining on us more often and many students now spend all their breaks outside which makes the school liven up again!

The Team Kista Talk this week is a bit special for me since it is about one of my favourite words and concepts, service. You can find it here!

Team Kista Talk and the run up to Easter break

Team Kista Talk and the run up to Easter break

Dear all,

As we move into the last week before the Easter break I want to take the opportunity to thank both students and staff for the attitude they have shown in school the last couple of weeks. We all know we are living through troubled times and sometimes this makes it hard to see the good things that happen. For myself, one way of staying positive has been to see and talk to the students who are very grateful for the school being open and offering them a sense of normality of a very different situation and also seeing how the staff have adapted to this situation and provided even more care and support towards both students and each other. They are acting as excellent role models to our young people every day. We will be open as normal this week as well and I know our staff and students will continue to show care and support all the way until Easter.

All of you may have seen the news regarding the cancellation of the national tests and some of you may be worried of the effects of this decision. Actually, even if the national tests are valuable in assessing and confirming students knowledge levels, it does not create huge problems for the assessment of students and their grades to not have them. Teachers have and will have enough information from the tasks that are produced as part of the teaching and learning in the classroom.

Finally, I would like to share this week's Team Kista Talk with you, it is about Hope, something we all need at this time.

Sincerely,

Mikael Ö. Huhta
