A special greeting from Nobel Prize winner Dr Torsten Wiesel

A special greeting from Nobel Prize winner Dr Torsten Wiesel

Happy Nobel Day! We are honoured to receive this special greeting from Nobel Prize winner Torsten Wiesel, who visited IES Kista last year.

Dr Wiesel, who won the 1981 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine along with his colleague Dr David Hubel, shares about the importance of having passionate interest for the work you do, because winning awards takes a lot of hard work and also, a little luck.

As Dr Wiesel says in the video, life is like a long-distance run. You must take care of your mind and body, and be kind and generous to others so that you can have a successful life.

Students take part in Stars Research Project

Star Science Project

Some of our Year 8 students joined a live Q&A feedback session with astronomers as part of the Star Hunt/ Forskarhjälpan (Help a Researcher) project.

The aim of the project, which is being run by the Nobel Museum, aims to inspire school students to become interested in research and science by giving them the  opportunity to try out real research for themselves .

Star Science Project

A selection of students from each year 8 class took part in the live session and discussed the pros and cons of the research project.
“It was cool to be able to talk with the researchers,” said one student, who now feels more motivated than ever to be a part of the project.

Another student was even able to get the answer to their most pressing question directly from an astronomer: “What happens if you get launched into space without a spacesuit on?”
